A single leaf from the renowned "Nuremberg Chronicle" - here a German translation of the original published just five months earlier. The work is renowned as one of the great early printed works, notable for fine lettering, approximately 1800 woodcut illustrations and two important maps, of the Ptolemaic World and of Europe. Among the woodcuts are numerous portraits, diagrams and illustrations of Biblical and historical events but, of especial importance, are the many double and single page panoramas of major European Cities. This leaf of text shows, on one side, a diagram of the earth central and surrounded by the moon, sun and stars - the 4th day of creation. The reverse shows the 5th day of creation - of birds and creatures that swim in the seas. Both images with God’s almighty hand blessing the scene.
