The British Empire on an octagonal plate! The twin hemisphere map shows the empire in red. The legend "The Empire On Which The Sun Never Sets" sits above the map and among the fascinating illustrations on this plate, all designed to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. This earthenware plate is transfer printed and has hand colouring with gold highlights and rim. Balance of trade figures for 1885 are given, together with population and land area of the Empire. Portraits are of the Queen and the Prince of Wales.
